Internships

Unpaid, for-credit internships are available in the fall and spring semesters. Interns contribute to all aspects of MCB programming, including Letters About Literature and the Massachusetts Book Awards, and aid in preparations for our public events. Volunteer Opportunities

Open volunteer roles will be announced as they become available both on this page and via our newsletter. While we are not able to offer administrative volunteer opportunities at this time, those who are interested in volunteering at MCB events to share our mission with the public should sign up for our newsletter by scrolling to the bottom of the page.

OPEN CALL: Help Us Document Local Literary History

Are you interested in local literary history? Do you want to help Mass Center for the Book in providing high quality learning resources for free to communities across the Commonwealth? We have a new volunteer opportunity! 

Mass Center for the Book is in the process of creating an online, interactive Literary Map of Massachusetts to document the rich literary history of the Commonwealth. The map will be available for use in classrooms, in libraries, and more generally for tourists and locals alike to chart their way through notable literary landmarks, author houses, libraries, gravesites, and more.

Each site on the map has a photo attached to it, but we do not have access to non copyrighted photos of every site. Therefore, we have compiled an excel sheet of locations for which photos are needed. If you live near one of these sites and would like to take a picture for us, you may submit your images using this form.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • The image must be shot horizontally, not vertically

  • The image must be high-resolution (300dpi at anywhere from 4x6 to 8x10 inches)

  • The image must be a wide shot of the entire landmark, plaque, or gravesite

Please submit images by October 15th, 2026. We will be updating the spreadsheet as we receive submissions, so please double check that the site is still on the list before you go out to take a photo of that site.
