Literary Map Supporters

The print edition of The Literary Map of Massachusetts is a project of the Massachusetts Center for the Book, encouraged by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress and funded in large part by a grant from the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities.

The Library of Congress asks each state-center affiliate to develop a literary map for its state, and through its Center for the Book provides seed grants to that end. The grant Massachusetts received from LOC funded the initial research for our commonwealth map.

The project was subsequently awarded a planning grant from the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanties (MFH). A state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, MFH also receives support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. With this planning grant, we were able to complete research, purchase some imaging capabilities, design the first edition of the printed map, and develop sample web pages for our next iteration of the project, an online map of literary Massachusetts.

This project has also benefited from support provided to us by the English Department, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Five Colleges, Inc., Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, and MassEnvelope Plus.

At present, we are seeking funds for the online project.
