Family Literacy
Mother Goose Asks, "Why?" (MGAW) is a wonderful family literacy program founded on the understanding that the skills we use to read stories are the same ones we draw on in scientific investigation. For a list of libraries and other organizations now offering the program, visit our "partners" page. You may also contact our Boston office for information about launching the program in your community.
"Mother Goose Asks, 'Why?'" was developed by the Vermont Center for the Book and funded initially by the National Science Foundation. The Massachusetts Center for the Book (MCB) and the Central Massachusetts Library System piloted this program in the Berlin, Milford, Oxford, & Worcester public libraries in 2001. The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners has collaborated on the dissemination of program to public libraries throughout the Commonwealth, helping us to reach more than 20 communities and over 600 families in our first few years.
