National Book Festival

The 2007 National Book Festival was held on the National Mall in Washington, DC, on 29 September 2007. More than 125,000 festival goers came out to celebrate books and reading, to hear favorite authors, and to visit the Pavilion of the States to get a great overview of national book culture.

The Massachusetts table, hosted the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the Massachusetts Center for the Book, highlighted this year's MassBooks,
welcomed Tobin Anderson, an NBF participant, and recommended Joe McKendry's Beneath the Streets of Boston: Building America's First Subway (Godine) for the festival literary map/national children's reading list.
In Beneath the Streets of Boston, Joe McKendry presents a beautiful visual record of Boston's first
big dig. Festival visitors were drawn to the wonderful illustrations and were also delighted to take away maps of our current subway system, compliments of the MBTA. The NECCO wafers we brought along were also a hit! In previous years, Massachusetts has promoted Make Way for Ducklings, The Cat in the Hat, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Johnny Tremain and Henry Hikes to Fitchburg.
