Mechanic Street Cemetery, Edward Taylor, Puritan poet, 1642-1729

Edward Taylor was a Puritan poet, pastor and doctor, who lived in Westfield from the time he graduated from Harvard.  His several volumes of poetry remained largely unrecognized until they were discovered in the Yale libraries in 1937.  In 1729, Taylor was buried in the Mechanic Street Cemetery in Westfield, which has headstones dating as early as 1648.
