Springfield

Springfield Cemetery, Thornton Burgess

Thornton W. Burgess, born in 1874 in Sandwich, Massachusetts, is internationally known for his children's stories and conservation work. His over 170 books and 15,000 stories both entertain and educate children about nature.  Burgess lived in Springfield from 1894 until he moved to Hampden in 1957.  He died in 1965 and was buried in Springfield Cemetery.
