Northampton

Historic Northampton, Henry James exhibit & literary tour information

The Historic Northampton Museum and Education Center includes a collection of 50,000 artifacts and three historic buildings, which altogether encompass several centuries of local history. It holds an extensice collection of archives and manuscripts from the 17th through 20th centuries. The Museum's permanent exhibit includes material on author Henry James, and information is available at their website about his book, Roderick Hudson, set in Northampton.

Historic Northampton has published A Visitors' Guide to Paradise: Historical Walking Tours of Northampton, Massachusetts which includes a brief history of Northampton and six walking-tours. James' residence in Northampton and his references in Roderick Hudson are mentioned.

Open Tuesdays-Fridays, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., Saturday & Sunday noon-4 p.m. Closed Mondays and holidays. Researchers welcome by appointment.
