Poet’s Seat, 1912 tower honors poet Frederick Goddard Tuckerman
Poet Frederick Goddard Tuckerman was born in Boston in 1821, educated at Harvard, and moved to Greenfield in 1847. Although most of his poetry remained unpublished until after his death, he did contribute verse to magazines such as The Atlantic Monthly.
Poet’s Seat in Greenfield is a stone tower at the top of Rocky Mountain, with a natural stone armchair at its base. The tower offers panoramic views of the Pioneer Valley and southern Vermont and New Hampshire .
