William Cullen Bryant Homestead, Family home of poet & editor

William Cullen Bryant composed one of his most famous poems, "Thanatopsis," at the Homestead when he was only 18 years old. In addition to writing poetry and hymns, Bryant founded the New York Review and was editor of the New York Evening Post. The Homestead is situated on 465 acres in the Hampshire Hills. Bryant transformed the original 1783 Colonial home of his grandfather by adding wings and a new lower floor and constructing 26 rooms.

The Homestead is open for guided tours from the last Friday in June through Labor Day, Friday - Sunday & Monday holidays, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
