Amherst

Noah Webster Statue

 

Noah Webster, lexicographer, journalist, textbook author & spelling reformer, was one of the founders of Amherst College and Amherst Academy.  Webster lived in Amherst from 1812 to 1822 and served as a state representative from Amherst.  A memorial statue of Webster was erected on the Amherst College campus in 1914, presented by Richard Billings, Class of 1897.
